Kīlauea is a shield volcano on the Island of Hawaiʻi. Its activity has included long-lived eruptions along the East Rift Zone and episodic summit eruptions. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory monitors the volcano using several kinds of observations, including seismicity, ground deformation, gas measurements, and visual monitoring.
